FPL glossary — the terms in plain words

Gameweek (GW) — A round of matches in one playing week. GW1 is the first round.

Deadline — The moment your squad locks — usually 90 minutes before the gameweek's first match. Later changes count for the next gameweek.

Captain (C) / Vice (V) — Your captain's points are doubled. If the captain doesn't play, the ×2 passes to the vice-captain.

Transfer / Hit (−4) — One free transfer per gameweek. Every extra transfer costs 4 points.

Bench Boost (BB) — Chip: all 15 players score this gameweek, bench included.

Triple Captain (TC) — Chip: captain scores ×3 instead of ×2.

Wildcard (WC) — Chip: rebuild your entire squad for free.

Free Hit (FH) — Chip: rebuild the squad for one gameweek only — everything reverts afterwards.

Auto-subs — If a starter doesn't play, a bench player is subbed in automatically.

Bonus (BPS) — The three best players of every match get an extra 3/2/1 points, decided by the BPS stats system.

Clean sheet — No goals conceded: the keeper and defenders earn extra points.

Differential — A player almost nobody owns: if he delivers, you jump the whole field at once.
